Smart Communications (SMART) has initiated an Alternative Power for Cell Sites program,
which uses renewable energy sources to power cell sites in off-grid locations. To date, there are
about 68 cell sites in different areas across the Philippines powered by renewable energy. SMART is rewarded by the Green Mobile Award at Global Mobile Awards 2009.
